What an amazing weekend we had at the Devon County Show, Working alongside our friends from the Torbay Cleaner Coasts Initiative in the Ocean Discovery Zone.

We chatted with hundreds of people over the 3 days. Lots of children created Art work with plastic at the TCCI stand and played in the fish tank with different plastics found on the beach. How did it get in the sea and what could they do to stop it ? Everyone appalled by the amount of debris in the sea and on our beaches.

But it was a fun and educational event for the children, lots of inspiring organisations coming together.

The children learnt so much about the oceans, through engaging in scientific experiments, seeing samples of marine life, watching dolphin rescue demonstrations, crab hunting, recycling, diving, competitions and the amazing sea life face painting!

Big Thanks to Juliette Jackson from Seadream Education and Andy Peters who organised this new event.

Fathoms Free is a group of volunteer divers who protect marine wildlife and the environment for everyone's benefit by removing ALDFG (abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear) and other marine debris from the coastal waters of Cornwall and Devon.

ALDFG is also known as ghost gear or ghost fishing gear, as it continues to "fish," entangling, trapping, and killing wildlife indiscriminately. These trapped animals will die and act as bait, attracting more wildlife in a vicious cycle of death until the ghost gear is removed from the environment.
